Culinary Arts

The Culinary Arts program is a one-year program that will provide students with a wide-range of experience in the culinary and food service industry with a heavy importance on sanitation and safety. After completing the ServSafe unit and safety training, students will gain experience in Real Food Industry Service through various catering events, located at the Mecosta-Osceola Career Center. All students will rotate in a variety of catering positions gaining valuable work experience in food preparation, customer service, teamwork, commercial foods and the hospitality industry. Students may earn the American Heart Certifications: Heartsaver CPR, AED and First Aid. Additionally, students have the opportunity to obtain their ServSafe certifications in Allergen, Food Handler and Manager. Students who have successfully completed the first-year curriculum, may apply for a second year for Advanced Learning and enrollment is determined by an application process. They will focus on Work Based Learning off campus and will continue learning in a partnership with Ferris State University (FSU) through their Restaurant and Food Industry Management program for the opportunity to earn college credit toward an undergraduate Certificate.
